Aleksej Jeliseev


- born in Kaluga district, Russia on 1934. A.Jeliseev (Kuraitis) - lithuanian origin, cosmonaut of USSR, scientist, ex-rector of N.Bauman technical school.


After WWI grandparents of A.Jeliseev (Kuraitis) appeared in Riazan district. The son - Stanislovas Kuraitis - has born there, father of A.Jeliseev (Kuraitis). On 1934 after soviet officer S.Kirov was murdered in Soviet Union repressions has started.



During repression a lot of lithuanians were arrested because of relations with Lithuania and other foreign countries. Stanislovas Kuraitis (father of cosmonaut) was sent to the lager as "enemy of Soviet nation". His wife - Valentina Jeliseeva - was forced to divorce in "non-oficial" way and gave her maiden name to the son. In this way, on 1950, being 16 years old, Aleksej Kuraitis became Jeliseev.

On January 15th, 1969 A.Jeliseev (Kuraitis) first time got to the space by spaceship SOJUZ 4. During this flight he steped in to open space and transfered to another spaceship SOJUZ 5. The same year participated in another flight of spaceship SOJUZ 8.


After 2 years, then took flight on SOJUZ 10, he became the first astronaut who made 3 trips to the space with two years period. In total Aleksej Jeliseev (Kuraitis) has made 3 flights to the space with duration of 8 days, 22 hours and 22 minutes. 37 minutes from this time he spent in open space.
